The Storm

The wind blew bitterly at the dogs, as they made their way across the winter wasteland. There was a snap, and the much larger, thicker coated dog, pricked his ears towards the sound, a low growl rumbled in his throat. "What is it?" The female Coon hound asked, following the eyes of the large male toward where he was glaring angrily. "Nova, your pups are not safe, you must go!" Rowan barked calmly at the pups mother, as to not upset the little bundles huddled at her feet. The big white male continued, turning to the dark shadows that seemed to arise from the snow like the dead, "I will hold them off, head toward the forest, you should be safe there." Tears starting to roll down her face, with a wimper the female nodded her head in agreement, as she herded her two pups toward the darkness of the forest. Once the mother and her pups were out of view from the rapidly falling snow, the male turned to where the shadows, only to see they were no longer there. Blinded by the snow, the male barred his teeth, he then barked into the darkness, "Show yourself, COWARDS!!!" An ear splitting howl erupted from what seemed to be all around him, swinging his massive head around, he saw a flash a fangs heading toward him before he could react.
